DATATRAP II™ DATA/VOD RECORDER

SKU: 1-04-01

THE WORLD’S MOST CAPABLE DATA/VOD RECORDER!

Your Data Acquisition (DAQ) system could cause a failure of your testing program. When confronted by dust, high or low temperatures, moisture, or even rough handling, a typical DAQ systems will fail.

If you want to record acceleration, pressure, and other dynamic sensors under tough outdoor conditions, then the DataTrap II™ Data/VOD Recorder is the only rugged recorder that provides this capability and the optional ability to record explosives velocity of detonation (VOD) continuously along explosives columns in many multiple blastholes, along explosives samples, as well as to determine the delay times between blastholes.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

APPLICATIONS

RECORD DYNAMIC SENSORS

The DataTrap II™ Data/VOD Recorder can sample the data up to 10 MHz for quick changing signals to accurately record the peak of the signal and the shape of the waveform. This is critical for measuring dynamic air blast pressures and dynamic underwater pressures whose peaks occur at a very high frequency.

The DataTrap II™ Data/VOD Recorder is used to:

  • Record underwater blasting pressures to protect fish.
  • Record pressures in water in mining blastholes to determine the pressures witnessed by explosives and detonators from explosives detonating on earlier delays.
  • Record high frequency accelerometers very close to blasting operations.
  • Record air blast pressures witnessed by items subject to pressures from detonating explosives.

The unit can also have a slower sample speed to measure the gradual change over a longer period of time. The recording rate can be decreased to 1 Hz to allow a long sampling time. For example, the unit with Maximum Memory measuring 8 channels at 1 Hz will allow for 370 days of recording in a single file. With the slower record times, slower sensors can be recorded.

TEST EXPLOSIVES IN ONE OR MORE BLASTHOLES PER BLAST
Using the DataTrap II™ Data/VOD Recorder, VOD PROBECABLE can be placed in multiple holes to measure the VOD of the explosives in the hole, the timing of the holes, length of column of explosives above the booster, the location of the booster in the first hole, the timing of explosive decks, the effectiveness of the decking material and much more.

With the DataTrap II™ Data/VOD Recorder a single length of VOD PROBECABLE per channel multiple pieces of data can be collected. This will extend the functionality of a single channel of data. With the VOD Upgrade, the DataTrap II™ Data/VOD Recorder can use multiple channels to record multiple holes that are designed to function simultaneously.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the maximum sample speed of the DataTrap II™ Data/VOD Recorder?

The maximum sample speed of the DataTrap II™ Data/VOD Recorder is 10 MHz. This means that it can sample data at a rate of up to 10 million samples per second. This high speed sampling capability allows for precise and detailed measurements of fast-changing signals and provides granularity of the signal waveform.

The DataTrap II™ Data/VOD Recorder is designed to capture data from various sensors, such as pressure sensors, accelerometers, or any other ±10 Volt signal. It can record up to 8 different channels simultaneously, each capable of measuring data at the maximum sample speed of 10 MHz.

It is important to note that the DataTrap II™ Data/VOD Recorder also offers the flexibility to adjust the recording speed independently for each channel. The recording speeds can be set from as low as 1 Hz to the maximum of 10 MHz, depending on the specific requirements of the measurement.

By providing a high sample speed of 10 MHz, the DataTrap II™ Data/VOD Recorder enables accurate and detailed data acquisition, making it suitable for applications where fast-changing signals need to be captured and analyzed.

What is the maximum recording time at the maximum sampling speed of the DataTrap II™ Data/VOD Recorder?

The maximum recording time of the DataTrap II™ Data/VOD Recorder is calculated by the following equation:

Total number of points / ((the number of tests) x (the number of channels active) x (sample rate of the channel)

The total number of points will be determined by the memory level in the unit. The Standard Memory of the DataTrap II™ Data/VOD Recorder is 128 MB (which is 67 million data points), Enhanced Memory is 256 MB (which is 134 million data points) and Maximum Memory is 512 MB (which is 268 million data points). The maximum sampling speed is 10 million samples per second.

Therefore, with maximum memory, one test and one channel measuring at the maximum speed, the recording time would be 26.8 seconds. With all 8 channels active at the same settings, the recording time would be 3.35 seconds.

What is the maximum number of tests that can be stored on the DataTrap II™ Data/VOD Recorder before it will need to be downloaded?

The maximum number of tests that the memory can be divided into is 32 tests. This will allow the user to reduce the recording time that is captured if working with shorter tests. The division of the memory will allow the size of the files to be reduced that will allow for just the events to be captured without a lot of wasted time.
