MICROTRAP™ VOD/DATA RECORDER

SKU: 1-03-01

THE WORLD’S MOST POPULAR VOD/DATA RECORDER!

Velocity of detonation (VOD) is cited as the performance specification for explosives. If you are not measuring VOD then you cannot be sure that your explosives are performing properly.

If you want to profile the VOD continuously along the explosives columns in multiple blastholes, along an explosives sample, or determine the delay times between blastholes, the most affordable and easiest to use recorder is the MicroTrap™ VOD/Data Recorder. It is the World’s most popular VOD recorder and can be optionally extended to record any sensor that outputs DC voltage such as pressure sensors and accelerometers.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

APPLICATIONS

TEST EXPLOSIVES IN ONE OR MORE BLASTHOLES PER BLAST
Using the MicroTrap™ VOD/Data Recorder, VOD PROBECABLE can be placed in one or multiple holes to measure the VOD of the explosives in the hole, the timing of the holes, length of column of explosives above the booster, the location of the booster in the first hole, the timing between explosive decks, the effectiveness of the decking material and much more.

TEST EXPLOSIVES SAMPLES
Typically during Quality Control testing near explosives plants, or when developing new formulations, the MicroTrap™ VOD/Data Recorder can be used to monitor a VOD PROBEROD placed inside the explosive sample or taped outside the explosive sample to measure the VOD of the explosives. Any explosive type, detonating cord, etc. can be tested.

OPTIONALLY RECORD OTHER DYNAMIC SENSORS
Air Blast Pressure Sensors
Underwater Pressure Sensors
Uni or Tri-Axial Accelerometers
• Any sensor outputting voltage in the range of +/-10VDC.

The MicroTrap™ VOD/Data Recorder can sample the data up to 1 MHz per channel on each of 4 Scope channels for quick changing signals to accurately record the peak of the signal and the shape of the waveform. This is critical for measuring dynamic air blast pressures and dynamic underwater pressures whose peaks occur at a very high frequency.

The MicroTrap™ VOD/Data Recorder is used to:
• Record pressures in water in mining blastholes to determine the pressures witnessed by explosives and detonators from explosives detonating on earlier delays.
• Record high frequency accelerometers very close to blasting operations.
• Record air blast pressures witnessed by items subject to pressures from detonating explosives.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the maximum sample speed of the MicroTrap™ VOD/Data Recorder?

The maximum recording speed of the MicroTrap™ VOD/Data Recorder is adjustable and can range from 1 Hz to 2 MHz. This flexibility allows you to select the recording speed that best suits your specific requirements.

The MicroTrap™ VOD/Data Recorder offers a resolution of 14 bits, providing a high level of accuracy with 1 part in 16,384. It has a standard memory capacity of 4,000,000 data points, which corresponds to a recording time of 2 seconds at a 2 MHz recording speed.

It is important to note that the recording speed can be adjusted according to your needs, allowing you to capture data at a rate that is suitable for your specific application. The MicroTrap™ VOD/Data Recorder provides the versatility to record data at both high and low speeds, depending on the desired level of detail and the characteristics of the explosives being measured.

Can I measure a borehole or an explosive sample with the MicroTrap™ VOD/Data Recorder?

Yes, the MicroTrap™ VOD/Data Recorder is capable of measuring multiple boreholes and an explosive sample.

The MicroTrap™ VOD/Data Recorder is a continuous VOD recorder designed to determine the Velocity of Detonation (VOD) in a single explosives sample or multiple blastholes. It utilizes a factory calibrated sensor called VOD PROBEROD to accurately measure the VOD in a single explosives sample, everywhere along the explosives sample. It can also determine the VOD in multiple blastholes of explosives per blast, everywhere along the column of explosives, using a factory calibrated resistance cable called VOD PROBECABLE. This means that the MicroTrap™ can measure the VOD in both an explosive sample and a borehole, providing flexibility in data collection.

What is the best VOD Sensor for the MicroTrap™ VOD/Data Recorder to use in a borehole?

When using the MicroTrap™ VOD/Data Recorder in a borehole, the recommended VOD sensor to use is the VOD PROBECABLE. This factory calibrated resistance cable is specifically designed for measuring the Velocity of Detonation (VOD) in blastholes of explosives per blast, everywhere along the column of explosives.
