HANDITRAP II™ VOD RECORDER

SKU: 1-02-01

THE WORLD’S MOST AFFORDABLE VOD RECORDER!

Velocity of detonation (VOD) is cited as the performance specification for explosives. If you are not measuring VOD then you cannot be sure that your explosives are performing properly.

If you want to profile the VOD continuously along a sample of explosives or along an explosives column in a single blasthole, the World’s most affordable and easiest to use recorder is the HandiTrap II™ VOD Recorder.

APPLICATIONS

EXPLOSIVES CONSUMERS
You are paying for explosives to provide you with the energy your blasts need under your specific blasting conditions. The HandiTrap II™ VOD Recorder is used by mines and quarries to perform spot checks of explosives performance during blasts to compare the actual in-hole VOD results to the VOD specification published by the explosives manufacturer.

EXPLOSIVES MANUFACTURERS
Your customers depend on you for their explosives. At explosives plants, the HandiTrap II™ VOD Recorder is used as part of the quality control process to test the VOD performance of samples of explosives including cartridges, boosters, detonating cord, bulk explosives of all types, and military explosives. At the customer’s blast site, technicians providing in-hole delivery of explosives use the HandiTrap II™ VOD Recorder to proactively document the VOD performance of the explosives being sold to the customer.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the maximum sample speed of the HandiTrap II™ VOD Recorder?

The maximum recording speed of the HandiTrap II™ VOD Recorder is 1 MHz. This means that it can capture data at a rate of 1 million samples per second. The HandiTrap II™ VOD Recorder is designed to provide precise and accurate measurements of explosives’ velocity of detonation (VOD) in blastholes or explosives samples.

With a resolution of 12 bits (1 part in 4,096), the HandiTrap II™ VOD Recorder offers high-quality data acquisition capabilities. It has a recording time of 131 milliseconds, which corresponds to 131,072 data points. The pre-trigger time is 25% of the total recording time, allowing for capturing data before the trigger event.

Can I measure a borehole or an explosive sample with the HandiTrap II™?

Yes, the HandiTrap II™ VOD Recorder is capable of measuring both a borehole and an explosive sample.

The HandiTrap II™ VOD Recorder is a continuous VOD recorder designed to determine the Velocity of Detonation (VOD) in a single explosives sample or blasthole. It utilizes a factory calibrated sensor called VOD PROBEROD to accurately measure the VOD in a single explosives sample, everywhere along the explosives sample. It can also determine the VOD in a single blasthole of explosives per blast, everywhere along the column of explosives, using a factory calibrated resistance cable called VOD PROBECABLE-HT™. This means that the HandiTrap II™ can measure the VOD in both an explosive sample and a borehole, providing flexibility in data collection.

It’s important to note that the HandiTrap II™ is primarily used for quality control processes at explosives plants to test the VOD performance of samples of explosives, as well as for technicians providing in-hole delivery of explosives at blast sites to document the VOD performance of the explosives being sold to customers.

What is the best VOD Sensor for the HandiTrap II™ to use in a borehole?

When using the HandiTrap II™ VOD Recorder in a borehole, the recommended VOD sensor to use is the VOD PROBECABLE-HT™. This factory calibrated resistance cable is specifically designed for measuring the Velocity of Detonation (VOD) in a single blasthole of explosives per blast, everywhere along the column of explosives.

The VOD PROBECABLE-HT™ allows for accurate and reliable VOD measurements in boreholes, ensuring that you can assess the performance of explosives in a single blasthole. It is important to note that the HandiTrap II™ VOD Recorder is a self-contained and ruggedized unit, making it suitable for field use.

By using the VOD PROBECABLE-HT™ with the HandiTrap II™, you can easily determine the VOD in a borehole and obtain valuable data for quality control and performance verification purposes.

What lengths of sensors can I use to measure samples with the HandiTrap II™

VOD PROBEROD™: This calibrated rigid resistance probe (0.9m long) that is suitable for use in explosives samples to monitor the continuous explosives VOD. This sensor type is typically used with strong explosives that are typically above 2500 m/s. It is compatible with all MREL VOD Recorders.

VOD PROBEROD-HR™: This calibrated rigid resistance short probe (0.2m long) that is suitable for use in explosives samples to monitor the continuous explosives VOD. This sensor type is typically used with strong explosives that are typically above 2500 m/s. It is compatible with all MREL VOD Recorders.

VOD PROBEROD-HS™: This easily crushed, calibrated rigid resistance probe (0.9m long) that is suitable for use in low-energy explosives samples to monitor the continuous explosives VOD. This sensor type is typically used with explosives that are detonating up to 3000 m/s and most emulsions. It is compatible with all MREL VOD Recorders.

VOD PROBEROD-HR/HS™: This easily crushed, calibrated rigid resistance short probe (0.2m long) that is suitable for use in low-energy explosives samples to monitor the continuous explosives VOD. This sensor type is typically used with explosives that are detonating up to 3000 m/s and most emulsions. It is compatible with all MREL VOD Recorders.

VOD PROBEROD-OS: This is a very sensitive calibrated rigid resistance probe (0.9m long) that can be used to measure the speed of products that are deflagrating. It is compatible with all MREL VOD Recorders.

VOD PROBEROD-XT: This is a calibrated rigid resistance probe (0.9m long) that is capable of being placed inside of a solid explosive during manufacturing. This has been tested to survive at casting temperatures above 300C. It is compatible with all MREL VOD Recorders.

Please note that the HandiTrap II™ VOD Recorder is primarily used for quality control processes at explosives plants and for technicians providing in-hole delivery of explosives at blast sites. The selection of the appropriate VOD PROBEROD length depends on the specific requirements of your application.
